We leave Bucharest through the north side of the city arriving soon at Snagov. Here, in the middle of a forest there’s a lake that protects an island and its Orthodox church. It is here where the official tomb of Vlad the Impaler “Dracula” is located. He is the famous prince of Wallachia (southern Romania) who inspired, 4 centuries after his time, the character of the Count-Vampire Dracula, so famous nowadays. The story goes that Vlad Tepes ("the Impaler") was killed near the Monastery and, while his head was sent to Istanbul, preserved in a jar of honey, the body was buried by the monks in the church's pronave. In the archaeological excavation of 1930 no human remains were found, but this event further fueled the Dracula-Vampire myth. After the visit, we return to the city.

More about Mogosoaia Palace
Mogosoaia Palace is an elegant residence, iconic for Brancovenesc style named after Prince Constantin Brancoveanu. It is a hybrid style: Byzantine in essence but with many elements of the Italian neo-Renaissance. This architectural style was born in a flourishing cultural period, a time of peace and prosperity, when Constantin Brancoveanu managed to keep his throne for 25 years. It was when the Academy of Bucharest was inaugurated, Horezu Monastery (UNESCO heritage) was founded and a western-inspired medieval court was organized in Mogosoaia. Although he was called „altın bey” meaning "the golden prince" in Turkish, for the impressive amounts of wealth sent to Istanbul to confirm his reign, in 1714, accused of not recognizing Ottoman sovereignty, he was arrested, taken to the Turkish capital and beheaded along with his 4 children after refusing to convert to Islam. Recently they were sanctified by the Romanian Orthodox Church. The residence regained its splendor after a restoration that ended in 1927, when the property belonged to Princess Martha Bibescu, received as a gift from her husband, George Valentin Bibescu, an important Romanian aviation personality and president of the World Air Sports Federation
